Hi All, wanted to share a feel good story that happened at lunch today. Met a pal at an awesome brew pub in Coral Springs FL called Big Bear. The side door was open as I walked up and I ducked my head into the brew room and I met the brewer; Matt. He was doing the 75% part of brewing; cleaning and sanitizing a tank… I said hello and told him I was just peeking in at a a real set up. He stopped what he was doing and introduced himself. I told him I was an amateur and just wanted a look and didn’t want to bug him. He told me he was cleaning out a tank prior to infusing espresso into a big batch ready for drinking tomorrow. I told him I was interested in adding some chocolate extract to a CDA I had in secondary and he suggested nibs instead. I expressed my timeline couldn’t afford another NB order… So he told me to hold on, walked in the back, ruffled around a bunch of stuff and tossed me an almost full 2 lbs of Peruvian Cocoa nibs. Said, “here you go.” As grateful as I was, I offered to pay and he said no worries. I thought this gesture/gift was very kind. I thanked him profusely and then went and had lunch. Just wanted to share this long winded story. Maybe he could tell I have great enthusiasm about the craft… who knows… So to my NB Black IPA I’m adding {per Matt’s suggestion} 1 cup of nibs to secondary for around 10 days. Cheers Matt!
cool. Beer people are good people.
I like to think so
Very nice. I think youy need to bring him a sample of what you come up with. Could be the start of a good relationship.
Only 75% Sometimes I think it’s closer to 95%
Sounds like Matt is a nice guy. Thank him by steering as much business his way as you can.
Precisely! I plan on bringing him a Cherry Whiskey Saison that will be ready this Saturday, providing it comes out ok.

He seemed really happy to talk brewing. Very cool.
I like a good story about brewers helping each other out. We’re good people.
That was nice of him. What’s CDA? Cross Dressing Amateurs?
Very very close! It’s the fancy lingo for a black ipa. All the cool kids are using it 8)

I don’t know about that, but all I know is you gotta watch out for those cross dressing amateurs.
I have to believe that most people that pro brewers run into, even the ones with a more refined palate, rarely have your level of interest in the brewing process or an appreciation for the amount of work required. It probably made his day that he could spend some of the time that’s normally devoted to the monotonous, grunt work talking about the fun aspects to an engaged listener.
That’s awesome! No community like the Brew Community!! Please keep us posted on how your Chocolate CDA turns out.
