To toast or not to toast

My recipe calls for flaked oats and flaked barley I take the oats and toast them for an hour at 300 deg turning every 15 min.

Question is has anyone toasted the flaked barley and what would be the results ?

I decided not to toast the flaked barley this time but if I hear about someones results I may do it next time or just make a small batch.
