I received my latest kit and when I went to refrigerate the yeast pack it was swollen. I have not used this type before, I have used the dry yeast, and on the packet it instructs to smash it and let it swell. Is the yeast ruined?
Nope, it’s fine. Just really healthy. There is nutrient in the pack you;re supposed to break, but if you make a starter (which IMO you should for any beer over 1.040) you don’t need to worry about breaking the nutrient pouch. Just cut open the package (slowly, so it doesn’t spray all over!) and pour it into your starter wort.
