Stainless steel or brass kettle valve?

I want to install a ball valve in my brew kettle, but am wondering if there is a difference between the stainless steel valve and the brass version, besides the price. Any input from my fellow brewers would be appreciated… Thanks and Cheers!

Get stainless. You won’t regret it.

+1 spend the extra cash.

Brass will serve you just as well as SS.

Install one, doesn’t matter which, you won’t regret it.

IMHO the 3 piece ball valves are the way to go for the ease of cleaning.

I have used both and can not see much difference. My old system had brass fittings that I did use John Palmer’s method to “pickle” them using vinegar and hydrogen peroxide to remove any lead from the manufacturing process. My new system came with SS. The SS will continue to look nice compared to brass and I would guess last a long time.

Those brass fitting have been used in water supplies for a long time though.

I don’t think the 2pc are all that hard to clean, other than the fact that you have to disconnect them from the vessel, which I’d want to do anyway. I have both types and if anything, the 2pc are easy to take apart and put together-- one big nut rather than 4 small ones.

True, brass will serve you well, but we are talking only $10 more for something that will never tarnish. Stainless.

If your looking for the best price these guys have it on SS ball valves they also have a great price on Chugger pumps. http://store.proflowdynamics.com/module … C12074.cfm Oh and the 3 piece BV’s will be back in next week.
