Splitting a Batch

I’m an extract/steeping grains brewer and I’m wondering, what’s the best way to split a batch?
This would be to experiment with hops and maybe grains. I guess I’d need to use 2 pots which I could do. Ideas? Thanks!

You can use two kettles, or you can just use half your ingredients and brew at two different times – your option.

Thanks for the ideas. Currently, I order a kit and brew half of it just as is. Then I tweak the kit a couple of months later. I think I’ll try doing 2 kettles on the same day sometime. That way I can compare ideas better.

You could also brew the full batch & split into two carboys to experiment with dry hopping, different yeasts or other additives. It is actually pretty cool/amazing how just using two different yeast strains can make the same “base” beer so different.

On Wednesday I did just that with an ESB: same yeast in each half but added Clarity-ferm to the second to see if I can tell the difference after all is said and done.
