Speckled Heifer and a Starter

I am planning on ordering the Speckled Heifer Partial mash kit from NB. I am considering ordering the Wyeast 1056 option as opposed to Safale US-05. NB’s stated OG is 1.042. Do I need a starter or will the one smack pack be sufficient?


No one else might agree with me, but I would suggest a Kolsch yeast for this beer. Clean and cloudy. Yes, definitely pitch a starter, and ferment cool around 60 F for a month.

I’ve done the AG version with S-05 and it was very good, but I’ll admit – you might be onto something with the Kolsch yeast… I may have to try that! :cheers:
