Brewing the Sierra Padre all grain kit this weekend and noticed on the recipe sheet it shows first hop addition as 45 minutes. Any reason why it wouldn’t be at 60? The extract recipe sheet shows 60. Thanks I’m advance for the help.
Possibly to compensate for doing a full boil instead of a partial. You have a higher hop utilization when you boil the hops in the entire beer instead of half of it then topping off
That makes sense I guess. I just don’t think I have ever seen there be a difference in their hop schedules on their recipes but I could be wrong. Thanks.
In addition it might be easier for recipe/brewers sake to hit the correct IBUs. For example its done its easier to boil 1oz of hops for 45 mins rather than .88 oz for 60 mins.
