Rootin Tootin Boil Time?

So Im going to be brewing Bill Pierces Rootin Tootin Rasputin. And it calls for a 2 hr boil. With hop additions at 105 mins.

Question is: if I were to do a 90 min boil, i would reduce the hop utilization, right? But by how much? Could I instead just up the hops by a little to compensate??

Thanks and cheers.

Not familiar with that recipe, but in my experience you don’t gain many more IBUs past 60 minutes, maybe 5-10 depending on the AA%. You should post the recipe, might be able to get a better idea how long you’d need to boil to get what you’re after.

ok here goes.

In Beersmith your recipe comes out at 1.087OG and 89.3 IBUs.

At a 60 minute boil and adjusting your 105 minute hops to 60 it’s: 1.087OG and 80.5 IBUs

I can see boiling longer if you wanted to collect more out of your mash to help with your efficiency.

ok, thanks, i can add a few more grams of hops to up the IBU’s. no big deal, i always buy a little extra just in case.

Thanks

Beersmith

is an excellent tool for brewing, especially for $28.

ya, it is, i have an app for my phone that is very similar, just didn’t plug it in, i forgot it could be that simple. haha. That’s what i get for doing calculations and what not after having a few

Call me crazy, but can I ask what the hold up is for you not doing the 120 minute boil as the recipe calls for?
Just curious.
