Returning from Brewing Hiatus: Uncrushed Sealed Grain Okay?

I’m coming back from a couple years of not brewing, and I have probably close to 100 pounds of grain that has been sealed in buckets (should be safe from humidity and mice, etc.)

Do you think I’m okay in brewing with this grain? Will it be okay? Will it have changed possibly?

I can’t wait to brew again! (But I will buy new grain if I have to.)

It might be! Grain lasts a long time, stored properly. As long as it tastes OK, it should be fine for brewing. If it tastes stale or rancid, it’s probably better to feed it to the deer.

I agree w/Porkchop, If it tastes stale or cardboard like it may be too old, but if it still has a little sweetness like fresh grain does it’s ok. Get a little fresh grain and side-by-side taste test them for similarities might help your decision.
