Quick Connect Fittings

I’m thinking about upgrading to quick connect fittings. Which normally goes on the hose, the male or the female? Does it even matter? Thanks.

Doesn’t matter. It’s slightly easier to have the female on the hose for attaching to a kettle or tun, but I put male fittings on the hose because there aren’t any moving parts for when I put it in a kettle full of wort. Thought it would be easier to clean.

Ok, ok… the real reason is that the female hose barb fittings were out of stock at the time and I didn’t feel like being patient.

I personally put the female on the hose cause you will need fewer of them cause hoses can be reused for different parts of the process and female fittings are generally cost more.

Can you guys post where you’re getting the fittings from?

I got them from NB and morebeer. Pricey, but well worth it.

I got mine pretty cheap and they are awesome

They are brass and very heavy duty. If you want stainless you will pay a lot more.

I had the Blichmann quick disconnects (first version w/o silicone insulating collar) and they worked fine, but I recently switched to camlocks that I purchased from pro flow dynamics (http://store.proflowdynamics.com/module … C12074.cfm) and have been very pleased.

I’ve purchased a lot of SS fittings and QD’s from here: http://www.bargainfittings.com/

When I first started brewing, I went with standard QD’s rather than camlock, because of simplicity (no style A, B, C or D to worry about). I’m kind of committed now, but if I were to start over, I would go with Camlock. I find that the standard female QDs can stick and I have had to replace a couple.

I got my standard QDs from bargainfittings too. I"m happy with them. The female will stick if you let a little wort dry around them but I try to remember to rinse them good after each brew session.
