Question about Vorlauf?

Hello I have a question about vorlauring using a pump. My first question does one need a recirculation arm of some type so it does not create channeling or is the worry about creating channeling more to do with fly sparging because I know when fly sparging you want to do it slowly.

Vorlauf and sparging are two different things. You still want to distribute your wort evenly as it returns to the MT. I built a simple manifold out of copper that span the entire MT for when I vorlauf with a pump. You can also use the manifold to fly sparge if you’re going to use the pump to move sparge water.

The channeling is of concern, whether vorlaufing, or sparging… I used to dough in, then from time to time would recirc (vorlauf) after I stirred the grain bed… The recirc would help to set the grain beds filtering potential, the stirring was to assure all the grains were mixed well with the new forming wort… Sneezles61
