Question about 1 gallon barleywine

I read the directions for the 1 gallon BW and the partial mash. The PM says to secondary for 5 months. The gallon just gives the standard 2, 2, 2. I have already purchased the gallon kit and I am wondering should i go 2, 2, 2 or sit on it a while?

I would sit on it for awhile. A big beer like BW can take awhile for the flavors to meld. You could tate one after 2 weeks, take notes, and compare one at say 6 weeks.

You can bottle it after a month or two – no need for a long secondary. Then just age it in the bottles. You can drink one after a couple weeks, drink another after a couple months, drink the rest after 9, 12, 18 months, etc. and see how it changes with age.
