What result should I expect by carbbing with CO2, but pushing beer with 100% nitrogen, rather than a beer gas mix?
I had a local company build a 40 cu. ft. nitro tank for me for a mere $65. Problem is I’m picking it up tomorrow and am having trouble finding anyone to fill beer gas before St Paddy’s day. But the place that built it for me can fill with pure nitro if I want. I just need a stop gap for my St Paddy’s day party. Worth doing?
I don’t see why it would be a problem. The carbonation level shouldn’t change as long as you don’t have any leaks and you keep it under sufficient pressure.
If you are pushing it all through in one day it probably won’t be a problem, but your beer will go flat in time with no CO2 mixed in.
At the same time the pour should work very easily with pure Nitrogen.
I have been thinking of not using beer gas in the future and just topping up my keg with a shot of CO2 at the end of each night. I find if the beer gass gets left on accidentally over night over carbonation can result very quickley. If I keep the two gasses seperate I think I could control things a bit easier.
The shop that built my tank actually found a place where I could walk in and have my tank filled for only $25 with beer gas. It’s on the far side of town about 30 minutes away, but worth the trip considering that they filled while I waited and they’re about half of the next lowest price I found (which was for send-away service with 2 week turnaround). I’m stoked!
