No offense, but that was really hard to read. Punctuation is everybody’s friend
Guess you got lucky. Sorry. Seriously though you cad add spices to the keg
stupid dutch person i am
Pumpkin doesn’t have a whole lot of flavor on it’s own - it’s really subtle. What type of spices did you use? Pre-mixed spice blend? How old was it? How much did you add?
The problem with spice blends is a lot of their potency goes away pretty quickly. One thing you could do is make an extract with some vodka and fresh spices, and add the mixture to the keg in small amounts until you get it to taste right.
There are 2 camps in the pumpkin ale arena, one that says adding pumpkin does nothing and one camp says pumpkin adds something…I’m firmly in camp 2.
I believe it adds mouthfeel and texture, and a orange hazy color to the beer. I believe you can taste it, if in enough quantity but it is subtle…
+1 to making a spice tincture if you can’t taste even the spices. Be careful though as it is easy to overshoot. I have my recipe on the NB recipe forum here somewhere. I’m making it again this year as I thought mine came out well, with no changes planned.
will try next batch
i did use the spices that came with the beer kit
and did use more pumpkin from the can witch i did roast
but i am wondering makes it a difference if i use fresh pumpkin
my beer brew partner comes over tonight. see if tells different . taste or not
