Priming sugar starter

Can you make a yeast starter with just priming sugar? What will happen?

You can, and you will raise some unhealthy yeast. They need the nutrients the malt contains to be healthy.

good to know thanks. Is there anything else you can use to make a starter besides DME or LME?

If you can do a mini-mash you can make a starter wort and if you’re AG, you can use second (or third) runnings from the mashtun.
