I accidentally bought cider that had Potassium Sorbate in it and tried to ferment it. So far, almost 2 days later, no change in the air lock. I used 1 packet of dry cider yeast without a starter. Do you think I can make a starter with a dry ale yeast and “over power” the Potassium?
Yes you can. See posts in Potassium thread. I just succeeded but did start with a yeast liquid and made a starter.
Answer is no…LOL. Put a yeast packet in and nothing happened. So I made a large yeast starter and still no bubbles. I tasted the cider and it tastes barely fermented and very sweet. Maybe my batch of cider had a large amount of potassium sorbate, but either way I’m not sure how much yeast you would have to add to overcome it…if possible.
