Possible to over pitch

So tend to do quite a few experimental 2.5 gal batches and was wondering if it’s possible to “over pitch” yeast being dry or liquid. Could this create off flavors and such. I have pitched 1/2 packets of dry yeast with no problems however just wanted to get a little feedback because i am fairly new to the art of home brew.

Yes, it’s possible to over-pitch just like it’s possible to under-pitch. Whether or not that’s what you want is a less clear-cut answer. If you’re trying to get a very clean yeast character, then pitching more than the typical 0.75 M/mL°P (for an ale) might be desirable. It all comes down to knowing your yeast.

To pitch at the standard ale rate, though, one liquid product, one unrehydrated dry yeast packet, or 1/2 rehydrated dry yeast packet, would be about right for 2.5 gallons at average gravity (~1.050).
