Really?! A $100 kit? That’s just ridiculous.
Well, it IS 6 gallons ya know
Yeah, I saw that and I’m intrigued. . .just not intrigued enough to drop $100.

I’d be curious to see how much this would cost priced out as separates. I wonder if they are also hiding some of the cost of shipping in the price a little too. It’s almost 21lbs of grain.
If you shopped around, you could get all the all-grain ingredients for this for under $65, not counting shipping. The problem is that it’s a PITA to brew high gravity beers, and lots of things will undoubtedly go wrong. With their kit-replacement policy, I’m sure they’ll be replacing lots of people’s kits, depending on failed mashes, fermentations, carbonation, etc. Everything is more difficult when you’re getting up to 1.10 OG. I think this is what is driving the extra cost - it’ll be expensive for these guys to be sending out replacement kits for when things go wrong.
I was not aware that they replaced kits due to user error. That’s putting a lot of faith in their customers…
Definitely… Just imagine the ways that someone could mess up a kit like this. Their kit guarantee says “We’ll replace it, anytime, no questions.” Never had to use it, so I don’t know the extent of what they would cover, but that sounds pretty broad. Let’s face it, we’re all a bunch of beer nerds for the most part here, and I mean that in a good way. But I could see a more casual brewer wanting to try this one out, and it ending up a disaster for one reason or another.
It seems like twice the ingredients as stuff they charge $40-$50 for. I buy bulk so kits seem pricey to me anyway but this doesn’t seem overly so IMHO.
That is very different than saying I would buy it…
I was intrigued on how NB could come up with ingredients to charge $100 for a kit, but assumed it was a ton of hops. I also questioned additional kit profit based on other comments. Yes, you could shop around and get the ingredients for cheaper, but using NB’s online pricing, the hops alone add up to $70 at the per ounce price, and another $35 for the base malt (unless I added wrong).
I have never bought a kit, so never really had a reason to compare prices, I was just more curious than anything.
I used it on my first brew and after a few email communications while it was fermenting I finally decided at tasting that it just wasn’t right. It was all my fault too, I did everything wrong from hot pitching yeast, too warm fermenting, etc. They replaced the kit even after all that. So for me if it’s a first time attempt or a beer that might be troublesome and the price difference is slightly more I might consider it for this piece of mind. Hey it’s the same reason I believe in protection plans on certain things I buy, I just know if I need it I’ll have it.
100 people fell for it, it’s sold out.
