Pitch the whole thing?

I’ve been planning to brew 11 gals of bohemian pilsner tomorrow morning.

I made a starter with light pils DME, swirled often, 2L,4L,4L that just finished up overnight. I put it in the fridge to chill this morning, planning to decant and pitch tomorrow around noon.

Suddenly my afternoon is open. It’s mid 40s and sunny, perfect weather to be in my brew pit.

If I decided to brew today and just split the starter and pitch undecanted I’d be pitching 2L of oxidized light plis starter to 5.5gals of 100% pils wort.

I’ve done this with ales many times. May have with a vienna or dunkel as well. Just haven’t for a pils.

I’ve always decanted my starters for my pils to be safe.

3 hours late, but I wouldn’t risk it. Some people pitch the whole thing, but it’s hard to hide a flaw in a pilsner.

Yea that’s what I decided too.

I split and stacked some firewood instead. Yea big fun… :smirk:

I think you made the right choice, Danny. It might not make a noticeable difference, but pilsners are the one style I take all the extra precautions with, every time, because of their delicate nature. If it were just about any other style I probably wouldn’t worry too much about just dumping the whole starter in if I were really pressed for time.
