I’m getting ready to brew this kit (got it as a freebie). I love stouts but I’m not fond of over the top coffee taste in a stout-just a hint will do. So I’m wondering if anybody has done this one and how the coffee flavor comes through. There are 4 oz of beans with the kit which are to be coarsley ground and added at flameout. I’m just thinking this might produce more than just a background flavor. Any ideas?

I would grind the coffee first and make a cup or two out of it. Once the coffee is brewed, steep the grounds in the wort. Making the coffee first, will take out the oils in and on the beans. Longer the steep more coffee favor.

I made that kit last year (also a freebie). Followed the instructions and did not change anything. If I remember correctly it was not overpowering with coffee flavor and only slightly astringent. Not bad advise from stihl though if you want to dial down the coffee taste.
