i did an all grain stone ruination clone recipe this weekend, and i think i may have messed up. we’ll use the “getting used to new equipment” excuse.
i think i boiled too much off and overshot my OG. should have been 1.075 but was 1.098! i already pitched the safale-05 and it’s happily bubbling away. should i just leave it and say it’s a double ipa, or should i dilute it with water? can i even still do that now that the yeast has been active?
i am SO grinding in graduations into the side of my megapot before next brew day.
I would leave it alone. The time to add water would have been the 1st day.
I also would not grind marking in the kettle. Get a piece of Aluminum or Copper and make your markings on that. I would hate to see you “goof” and put a hole in the side of the pot.
shadetree, you are right, i shouldn’t call it a clone anymore since changing up the yeast. it’s a recipe i found on the internets a million years ago, (might have been old rec.crafts.brewing?) that came out great the first time i made it. i was able to get great western’s 15L.
the way I’ve been measuring how much I have in my brew pot during boil is by dunking Chuck Norris in head first. whatever fluid ounces comes out of his nose, I multiply by 3.14 and that’s how many gallons I have.

Be careful taking the Chuck Norris in vain like that!!! You may find a roundhouse coming at you…
pffft. Norris worries about taking the Edward Teach in vain.

you are multiplying chuck norris with pi? whoa.
I’m just awesome like that.
