I was going to make a yeast starter for my latest batch when I noticed that I was all out of the DME that I use for one. Is there any good alternative for DME or should I postpone my brewday until I get some?
I think you could use apple juice as long as there are no preservatives and I guess for that matter maybe even a frozen can juice concentrate. If you have fresh fruits on hand you could crush them and steep 'em for 15 min at 150-155 F. Be sure to decant before pitching.
Great minds think alike? You and that other dude might be related . . .

Sorry but apple juice is a bad idea. You need to grow yeast with the complex sugar that they’ll encounter in wort. DME, LME, do a mini-mash to create starter wort. Those are pretty much you’re only options.
Use some of your base malt to make a starter. I think a 1/3 pound for a quart starter would do it.
Use 3/4 oz. DME for every cup of water. For a qt., that would be 3 oz. For LME, use 4 oz./qt.
I stand corrected, thanks for the lesson!
It ain’t easy bein cheesy.
