hello all im a new all grain brewer and i was wondering if anyone could give me some tips and tricks to the art. I am needed instructions on fly sparging i have a 10 gal tun and a 15 gal brew pot. thanks
Wow. Not sure where to start… Relax, don’t worry. Have a homebrew?
Sorry… gotta do it…

I have made 4 AG batches and 9 extract. AG isn’t really much harder. My recommendations:
Skip fly sparging and just batch sparge, at least for the first few batches. Batch sparging seems much easier to me and when you first start AG, I think you want easy. I have not, however, ever fly sparged.
Recognize that you probably will not hit whatever efficiency is assumed in the recipe so you OG very well may be low. If hitting your number is important to you, have some extra light DME around on brew day to add prior to boiling to get your OG where you want it.
Maybe for the first batch, don’t make some crazy triple IPA that uses a pound of Citra and a half pound of Amarillo so you wont be all stressed out about “ruining” your beer.
In any event, RDWHAHB.
I fly sparged my first 5 batches. The 431 since then have been batch sparged.

I agree…do batch sparge and call it a day…That is all I have done for my first few AG and I’m happy with what I have produced.
Researching AG and coming across fly sparging is what made me wait so long. What a PIA looking process! I have batch sparged all my batches and it is really easy and efficient.
I’ve been lucky to have started all grain under the enlightened concept of batch sparging. My beer has been good. I’m sure there would be some gain from fly sparging, but I’m happy as is.
+!
Denny uses the batch sparge method and so does Don Osborne. That’s good enough for me. Don’t complicate things. Make Beer. Un-complicate your life and leave more time to read good books.
Get a really good accurate thermometer.
When I started batch sparging I made some really insipid watery beer. My thermometer that I was not able to calibrate was 7-8 degrees below at 150. After going through 4 cheap digital thermometers I received a Thermpen for Christmas. Efficiency went up 10+points by just hitting my temps. and double crushing my grain at NB. PS. I also sprang for a water report recently that has created another whole level of concern.
Thanks for all the help i brewed the AG caribou slobber and it has been 8 days in primary. the beer still has heavy krausen will it drop and is 3 weeks in the promary too long before secondary?
I am just getting started to brew my first AG I plan on brewing 10 gal. Batches which will suit my needs and equiptment for what i have now. My last piece of equiptment that i Need is my mash tun, I kinda like the rectangular ones, so my question is what brand and size would work best to keep mash temps on target without too much or too little head space. i don’t mind spending the money, mainly looking for quallity thanks.
I use a 48 qt. cooler. It’s generally big enough but it I was gonna build a new one I’d go 70 qt. I don’t think brand makes a lot of difference.

+1
Don’t over think it.
The brand makes no difference at all. It’s all about the color of the cooler.
Thanks Denny I found a 70 qt. coleman extreme cooler at target for 40 bucks i will be building my mash tun this weekend. thanks again
