New Burner Help

I previously had a SS high pressure propane turkey fryer setup for my brewing. I made a keggle and seems I need a new burner. I slightly scorched the pot if I run it wide open and the flame is too concentrated in the center of the keg. Plus the keggle doesn’t fit well on the stand. From what I read here I can get a new burner head or for more $ get a Blichmann. I use propane right now but do have a NG outlet outside near where I brew. I brew 5-gal. batches maybe 7-10 times a year.

Looking for burner selection help.

Thanks,

Mike

I’d strongly consider NG mainly for the convenience and $ reasons. You never run out of NG but it does limit your ability to brew somewhere else. I love my Superb burner but they are obsolete (you might find one on Craigslist or ebay) and I also ove my impinging jet burner. This place is dirt cheap on burners: Jet Burners

Here are pics of both of mine:

Superb 35,000 BTU for my 15.5 gallon HLT

10-tip 58,000 BTU for my 25 gallon BK

Which jet burner would you suggest for my wort boils?

Thanks

I too have an old Superb burner I won’t part with. Its life has gone from LP to nat gas and back to LP. Right now its function is mostly to blacken fish in a cast iron pan. My brewery now has jet burners for propane.

I think your choice for burners could depend on cost. The Blickman floor burner looks great but a little pricey. You could get away with a Bayou for wort boils for a lot less.

If you are considering using natural gas from your house keep in mind the pressure is way less than an LP tank and no regulator is needed. There are burners made for low pressure NG like this one http://morebeer.com/view_product/17249/ … atural_Gas My Superb on NG took significantly longer to bring wort to a boil than using LP. It came with different orifices for NG and LP. The opening is much larger for the lower pressure NG.

This is the monster that I just bought it will boil 13 gallons of wort in less then 10 minutes http://www.homebrewing.org/14-Propane-B … _1190.html

Whoa…only $80?! Very tempting…

Yeah they also have a 18" one for less then 100.00 http://www.homebrewing.org/Propane-Burners_c_68.html

Can I use those with just a standard propane tank, such as what I’d get from Lowes or Home Depot for use with a gas grill?

Yes thats what I use.

That burner design looks like the one that came with my turkey fryer. I’m worried it may concentrate the flame too much toward the center.

Yeah I have not had any problems with it. The design does look close to the same buts its bigger around. I have had no problems with it scorching the kettle or wort.
