NB Belgian Witbier Recipe

Last weekend I brewed Northern Brewers Belgian Witbier extract recipe kit SKU: U1220. I noticed that the color of my beer is much darker than the picture on the website. Does anyone know if this is because I used an extract kit versus a partial mash or all grain? Or is it something that I’ve done? I’ve had the same issue with the Bavarien Hefeweizen kit as well. Any insights are appreciated, thanks!

Extract brews are typically darker than their all-grain counterparts due to carmerlization of the sugars in extract. This is made worse by the concentrated boils that are later topped off with cold water. It’s nothing that you’re doing wrong.

Some things that can help are full-volume boils and late extract additions. For the most part, though, it’s just cosmetic.

Porkchop, thanks for the quick response and the information. I thought that was the case, but since I’ve only been doing this for less than a year I thought I’d asked the experts! thanks again!

No problem, but just don’t confuse me with the experts!
