I am in South St Paul which has a water hardness of 18-20 gpg (307-342 ppm). And the softener was already there when I bought the house, so it was kind of out of my control anyway.[/quote]

I havent seen a water report from st paul that high, are you positive it is accurate

This isn’t St Paul, it’s the city of South St Paul (next to West St Paul, north of Inver Grove). Different city, different water. Those numbers come from the city’s yearly drinking water report.

I know I have seen reports from freinds in different areas of st paul and it was all nice soft water.
Your area may be an exception
