I brewed a batch of AK47 Sunday. Forgot the lb of corn sugar. I almost always come in rather high on my OGs and this time (with the lack of the sugar ) I ended up with an OG of 1.034 instead of 1.035. Should I do anything at this point except just rename this one as a “Daisy Shooter” instead of an “AK-47” (already an odd name for a very light beer). I even had the sugar sitting on the counter. I doubt the solution is to add the sugar at this point but I am not sure so…?
Extract or all grain? Sugar is only to boost the OG and to perhaps allow it to dry out a bit. If extract, if you are that close without the sugar, you must have lower volumes of water. I always nailed the OG when I was doing NB Extract kits when I ended up with 5.25 gallons in the fermentor.
.001 difference in the OG is nothing, so I would leave it be. Call it AK46.998
You will be fine. I brewed that one awhile back for all of my “yellow beer” friends. It turned out great. If I do it again, I think it would do well with a dry hop.
I’m all grain. I suppose there is no reason I couldnt boil the sugar in 16 oz of water and add it to the fermentor tonight (after cooling). The yeastlings should be just getting gonig good anyway by then. Of course That would knock my OG sinificanly above expected (which would be normal for me).
No I wasent short on volume (due to overboiloff), I simply consistanly have very high effeciencies. I can only assume it is my grind method (corona hand grind) that does produce a somewhat fine grind as nothing else in my system is all that “different”.
You can add the sugar if you would like at this point with no problem.
In primary after fermentation, it will just referment.
I actually prefer adding my simple sugars in fermentation, rather than in the brewpot. The reason is they are eaten much more easily by the yeast than the malts.
So it’s like dessert for the yeast, after they’ve finished their meal of maltose.
