Mind explosion

I don’t know if any of these procedures are okay, but I’ve never seen or heard of anything like some of the things he does. I literally winced a couple of times watching this. Does anyone else use these methods?

Other than forgetting to add any hops to the beer, what bothered you about his process?

HAHAHA! Didn’t even realize that. Must have been prehopped LME?

I didn’t see a hop addition either. Other than that it looks like he made beer.

I don’t think the gunk he poured from the BK was just break…Looked a bit like hop sludge to me.

Are you not supposed to add LME to the boil? And I guess now that I think about it he’s right about not having to worry about completely pulverizing the grains…

Since he opened a canned LME, he doesn’t have to worry about boiling it, it’s sterile. But when you buy the stuff packaged by the LHBS, boiling it is a good precaution.

Looks like a yes: http://www.brewtec.co.nz/mixes.html

Maybe it got edited out, but I didn’t see a boil process at all? Just steeping then adding DME to the liquid and then LME straight into the fermenter.

The whole thing seems kinda crazy.

On the recipe they showed on the screen early in the video… no hops mentioned at all. It’s either in the extract or a nutty omission because most brewers make a special note of what hops they used. Maybe in a stout it’s a non-issue or something but it still seems weird to me.

Haven’t watched the video, but no boil kits are popular in the UK. Add pre-hopped extract to water, stir, pitch yeast.

Well doesn’t that take the brew out of brewing?

Yeah, but brewing, reduced to it’s lowest level, is just cooking. And we all know what British “Cuisine” is like!!

Yup this pretty much remindes me of the ways of the late 80,s. This is how some of my first brews were made. I f I recall correctly I also made a stout that was pretty damn good for a first brew.

Nah, it just turns it into Betty Crocker brewing.
