Menards propane burner?

Anyone use this burner? http://www.menards.com/main/outdoors/gr … -10141.htm

I would use it with a 9 gallon kettle.

Looks like a pretty generic burner to me.

I have one that is very similar that I got from Menards years ago. Still does the job just fine.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I’ll give that one a try.

I use the same thing.
The stand can be a bit uneven, but that’s easily fixed.

It works.

I think I read about them being a bit wobbly. How did you remedy that? I don’t have a welder currently, so I am somewhat limited in how to stiffen the stand,

Our host sales great burners at great prices. I would.rather pay little more and not have to worry about it. If it will work. Or wobbly. And pay once for a one recommended for.brewing beer. You can also checkout banjodepot.com

That is one heck of a deal. I wouldn’t like the tall stand though and I am a short guy. Also, not sure that will handle keggles. Looks like NB is only carrying the fancy Blichmann style burners…

I used a 200k BTU jet style burner for years and finally upgraded to a SQ14 and love the thing. http://www.amazon.com/Bayou-Classic-Sin … B0009JXYQ4

Whatever you decide, be sure to take time and dial the flame in and do a dry run to burn off any paint and chemicals before brewing on it.

Hmm. The SQ14 looks like a good model.

FYI: The burner I referenced in the OP has a 13-3/8" diameter cooking surface, per the manufacturer.

My kettle is 14" diameter, so the little side extensions would not work for me.

That’s similar to the one I bought to get started in All Grain, and my opinion is that it works pretty well for that price-point:

I’ve since upgraded to a dual-burner patio cart, but the tank fitting broke on my patio cart this weekend, so I reverted back to the Menards burner to finish my brew day. I had to remove the side guards to accommodate my 16 gallon kettle, but it got me through to the end of the boil just fine…

Yep, get them them training wheels off! Go to to the store and check it out/stand on it/assess whether you feel comfortable having 8G or even 15G of boiling wort on it…

Agreed on the training wheels. I have been split boiling 5 gallon batches on the stovetop (and grill side burner) for 10 years! Time to simplify things a bit,

Thanks for the help. I ordered the SQ14 and will plan to do a windscreen as I have seen over on HBT, to help make it a bit more efficient.

Dude, your gonna love it: not so much the SQ14 over the Menards unit, but freedom from the stove and brewing outside. Granted I brew in the garage with garage door up, but unless it’s really windy the windscreen is not really necessary IMO. Congrats!

Probably uses this burner, based on the BTUs stated. Looks just like the burner in the turkey fryer stand I’ve been using. Works fine. Not sure how efficient a burn, but it gets stuff boiling fairly quickly. At least 2.5 gal anyway.

Yes, I think you are correct on the burner, which, incidentally, looks similar to the bayou SP10…
