Memorial Brew Day

I want to brew on Memorial Day. I’m going to be out of town all weekend and I want to know how early I can make my starter. I was thinking of making it Thursday - gone Friday through Sunday - and brewing on Monday.

That’s definitely not too soon. I make my starters 5-7 days in advance so they can ferment out and I can chill and decant them.

Thanks Denny. That’s the answer I was hoping for.

Memorial day brewing… Nahhhh… Drinking day!!!

I decant all of my starters, so I always allow time for cold crashing.

What do you mean by “decant”? I’ve seen it on the message board before, but I don’t know what it is.

+1 on drinking beer on Memorial Day. When its you’re only free day and supplies are running low, you gotta brew!

Decanting is pouring off the “Beer” from on top of the yeast cake after cold-crashing the starter. I do it as well. I started doing it for bigger lagers where a huge starter is necessary, but now I decant all of my starters.
