Mash tun efficiency?

Can there be a difference in efficiency between different shaped MTs? I have used a rectangular cooler for the past 5 years. yesterday I tried my converted keg as a MT and it seems my efficiency went up quite a bit. Or is it more likely that I just hit my mash pH better?

In scientific studies you need to change one variable at a time to understand what happened.

The mash tun itself should have no effect on efficiency. How you use it might make a difference.

I think that the overall design of the MLT could result in an efficiency change (probably minor) if your ability to fully drain the wort is affected. For example, if the new MLT uses a false bottom whereas the previous MLT used SS braid.

Good point. Both have SS braid but I would think there is more left behind in my cooler setup.
