Lower Taxes for Craft Brewers?

This is an interesting article. Can’t imagine why InBev is against it…

Here in Florida Budweiser is trying to close the door (again) on brewery tap rooms, a door THEY opened decades ago with Busch Gardens.

InBev is against it because it will lower the barriers to new brewers entering the market - one of which might someday become a threat to them.
We already have something like this in Finland, but like pretty much all alcohol laws here, it is really badly thought out and doesn’t promote its stated goal of aiding small brewers. The beer tax of 1.50 euros per liter is cut in half for breweries that produce less than 200,000 liters per year. But as soon as they exceed that, they have to pay the full tax on all the beer production - instant tax bill increase by 150k euros. Effectively this prevents craft brewers from expanding.

Halving the tax rate to $3.50 for the first 60,000 barrels is great for startup companies but the reduced rate for 60,000 - 2,000,000 could be taken advantage of. I see a lot of bickering…ummmm I mean discussion on the B.R.E.W act.

It will be interesting to watch this play out. Nominally the republicans are all about stimulating small to mid-sized business through reduction of taxes. Of course they’re also about the lining of their coffers by deep-pocketed lobbiests. This has to be a very conflicting choice for them.

Oh yeah… just the Republicans…

You’re Absolutely correct. I didn’t mean to pick on just one side…
All around, we have the best government money can buy.

JMcK I happen to work for the government and you couldn’t be more correct! Especially the House/Senate. If you ever wonder where a law comes from… track the money.

Guys. Please let’s not get this into a political debate. News about beer is good. My party is better than your party is not.

Can I at least complain about Finnish political parties when it relates to beer?

RC, don’t let those Finns taste your’s, they might start taxing you.
