Kona Bender

A friend of mine brought me a sack of pure Kona coffee beans from a recent vacation. I’m going to use it to make my own version of Surly Coffee Bender. I’m starting with the NB Surly Bender kit, but leaving out the flameout addition of 2.5 oz of Willamette. Instead, I’ll add 4oz of coarse ground Kona to secondary.

Barring any debate about the “proper” way to add coffee to beer (I prefer this method), does is sound like a good brew? I’m not trying to clone Coffee Bender, but I really liked the Surly Bender kit and figured this would be a good modification.

I also think a Pumpkin Bender (replace Willamette w/ 1.5tsp of pumpkin pie spice) would be excellent. I might try it next year.
