Just got NHC 1st round score sheets back. I didn't win

I took the day off of work so I could get my entries registered. I got 6 entries. Cream Ale, APA, Weizen, Oud Bruin, Smoked Baltic Porter, and Oatmeal Stout. I thought all these beers were phenomenal, and I was confident that at least a few would go on to 2nd round. None of them placed. While my dreams of beer-world domination are put on hold, I was happy to get the feedback. This was the first competition I had ever entered, and the main issues seemed to be recipe-related. No off-flavors were detected in any entry, and everything was in the high 20s and 30s. Because of the AHA server issues, my entries were all switched to another site, so I had to ship them a couple thousand miles away. I’m stewarding at another site that’s about 10 miles away in a couple of weeks, and I’m looking forward to getting a lot more insight into the judging process, and maybe tasting some award-worthy examples of the styles I entered.

Congrats on the high scores anyway, man. Always bare in mind that while these judges are certified and their advice is valuable that they’re not the final authority. It’s all you and your taste your taste buds. Personally, I respect that lineup regardless of the taste. Its an ambitious set. Always a fan of a good Oud Bruin. Cheers.

How did you get your scores? They aren’t supposed to post any results until all sites have reported and everyone gets their results at the same time, otherwise those getting them earlier have an unfair advantage if re-brewing the beer for the second round.

I know quite a few people have mentioned that they have gotten theirs back from Seattle… Also saw a post on Brewing Network that they actually posted the Seattle results for a time before they had to take them down.

I had heard maybe St. Paul results were getting sent out this past week sometime… have not received anything yet though. Anyone know about any results/scoresheets other than Seattle?

I’m anxiously awaiting my sheets from KC. Same as abrown001, my first time entering a competition, and only sent in two beers… an Imperial Stout and a Baltic Porter. Was originally scheduled to send them to Zanesville, and was going to drive down there, from Michigan, to hand deliver them. After the issues the AHA had with the site, I was switched to KC. Judging was last weekend. I’m sure I didn’t make it to the 2nd round, even though I thought the beers were some of my best efforts, but I am really anxious to see the score sheets. Hoping to see them soon!

Just went to the KC registration site and saw this on the homepage:

Winners of the First Round Judging Centers will be reported once all 11 locations have completed judging and submitted the results to the National Homebrew Competition Director. By May 4, 2013 winners will be posted and competition entrants will be able to access full results via the online database used for registration.

Please do not contact site directors requesting results, as they are not permitted to release this information until the AHA has published all winners from all 11 judging centers. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Guess we’ll have to wait until at least May 4th. Relax and have a homebrew just doesn’t cut it, in this instance!

I just got my results from KC in the mail. I really did not expect them so fast.

Got mine today from KC, too. Scored a 30 for my Imperial Stout and a 37 for my Baltic Porter. Very happy, as it was my first time entering any competition. I know that’s frowned upon by some, but I’m still happy with the results. Now I can take my comments and hope to do better in my next comp.
