Irish moss taste

The other day I was brewing a porter. It came to the final 15 minutes of the boil and I was getting ready to add the irish moss. Out of curiosity I tasted it. It tastes pretty terrible. Do you think that the small amount that is used (1 teaspoon) will have any noticeable impact on the flavor of a 5 gallon batch of beer? Are the other alternatives better?

There will not be any flavor addition to your porter. I personally wouldn’t use any clarifying agent in a dark beer though. Any remaining haze that would make it to the keg or bottle would be unseen in a dark beer.

No taste from Irish Moss but I prefer Whirlfloc tablets. Same product just a different form. I believe it is from seaweed.
