My brew closet is getting colder this winter than I would like. I was trying to figure a way to heat it without burning my house down when I saw an infrared lightbulb heat source for a reptile cage. I know hops and the visible-to-UV end of the spectrum make poor bedfellows, but what about IR?
You can either make a lager or ale that prefers the lower temps or buy a carboy heater like this: http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/elec … eater.html
You can certainly use IR. If you are concerned wrap your fermenter in a towel to block uv.
