Im new to wine making and Im finding using a glass hydrometer a pain, are there any other devices out there that are easier to use.

You could use a refractometer, but they tend to be fairly expensive. Worth the money if you are making beer - especially from scratch - but if you are just making up wine kits there really is no major need for one. You could even get away with not using a hydrometer at all if you wanted. The kits are easy to use and come out the same every time. You can tell if a wine has finished fermenting out just by looking at it.
What about using the hydrometer is giving you trouble anyway?
Of course, if you are pressing your own grapes or making something that is not a kit, it is important to know your gravities so a refractometer or hydrometer would be recomended.
