Getting an "in" on a brewery

Hey guys. I was just wondering if anyone here, having been driven to take things to the next level, has tried their hand at commercial level brewing. I live in Portland and am surrounded quite literally with breweries. There’s nothing I’d love to do more than get a chance to set foot and get even the slightest bit of experience in the industry, but it’s kind of why half of the people who live here are here… so it’s a little competitive. Do you guys have any advice so I’m not just walking around from space to space going “Hey I thought I’d just up and become a brewer! And, shucks, it’d be swell if you guys could take me in under your wing to show me the ropes.”

I toured one here local and was invited to come volunteer and learn the ropes. I to oneday would like to go next level.

 that cracks me up. I know now after moving here that my odds were astronomically higher if I tried it practically anywhere else in the country. But, now I’m here

I have been slowly looking at this myself but the taxes and regulations are super complex. maybe if i drank less and studied more i could figure it out  Cheers

Remember, the majority of the time a brewer is a janitor. Clean the MT. Clean the BK. Clean/sanitize the fermenter. Clean/sanitize the serving vessel. Clean/sanitize the transfer lines and heat exchanger. Clean/sanitize the serving lines.

OK, the brewer sits back and watches the assistant brewing to the work.

I have a buddy that owns a brewery and a buddy that owns a winery and help out quite often. Its a lot of fun to step things up to that size systems. I’ve even had a couple of my recipes ran at both. Nothing wrong with trying to take things to the next level, a willingness to learn and a willingness to work will go a long way.
