Now that its lagering season I plan on retiring my current house yeast (Wyeast American Ale II that i got 5 great batches out of)
Looking for a good lager yeast, preferrably a german strain as i have been getting into some good german lagers
I plan on brewing a Black Lager, Weizenbock and an Oktoberfest. Probably a few others too
Anyone have a suggestion for a good all-around yeast that would work on these?
I use 34/70 dry on my lagers, especially my schwarzbier. I just used Bavarian Lager, Wyeast 2206, and have yet to see how that comes out but I’m expecting it to be better than the dry.

well, the weizenbock should really use weizen yeast - WL380, WY3068, etc.
For the black lager and oktoberfest, I tend to use WL830 for all my lagers, since I make the whole range, but if I were just making black lager and fest, I would use WL833. Wyeast 2308 would be a good one if you only have Wyeast available.
What did you use the 2206 yeast for? I have a big starter ready and have not formulated a recipe yet. Plan to brew Sunday.
I used WLP300 for primary in my Weizenbock. then I did a true secondary with WLP400. the Wit yeast is barely noticeable.

Can’t answer for Mvsawyer, but I’ve used 2206 for about a dozen beers in the last two years, everything from light lagers to schwarzbier to maibock to dunkels and a bunch more. Nice strain, but I’ll try something new for my first lager this year, but not sure what.
I don’t use White Labs anymore, but when I did their standard German Lager yeast was amazing. Recently I used Wyeast Pilsener (not the czech) and had great results.
my standard lager yeast is 830. 34/70 is the same strain so you can always keep some dry around for back up emergency.

It was a schwarzbier. Kegged it yesterday along with a schwarz that used 34/70. Wasn’t a huge noticeable difference. Although, the yeast would have to impart a big flavor to overwhelm the chocolate, roasty, toastiness.
