Fruit and Berries basics

It’s that time of year and I know the topic of fruit beers has been coming up. I’m looking for the basics. My plan is to brew American wheat, let it it ferment and then split it into two 3-gal carboys. I haven’t decided which fruits to use–probably cherries and blueberries.

How much is the average amount added–what’s the pounds/gallon rate?
What’s the standard procedure? Will a vodka soak and the a puree/blend in a sanitized blender do the trick?

What else do I need to know?
