Yup, I admit it. I let the fermenter get too cool in the basement. The Australian lager was going for about a week, and then the temps got really cold that night. The air-lock froze solid. I simply tried to heat it with a hair dryer but that didn’t work. So, just did a quick switch with a sanitized air-lock. now, 24 hours later, the air-lock shows a plop every 10 seconds. I guess I’m still ok, huh?
Luckily Lager yeast can handle the cold better than Ale yeast.Plus, after a week you are probably more than 1/2 way done with primary.Sounds like you dodged a bullet.
Did you get freezing in the fermenter or just the airlock?

Fortunately, just the airlock. I have since moved it to a more enclosed area of the basement (a separate storage room). The temps in there are more constant. Actually, I think I’m going to build a brew cave down there!
