I decided to boil some water in my new aluminum kettle that I plan to use as a hot liquor tank and the water turned a light brown and stained the kettle the same color. Is this normal?
Yes it’s normal. It’s oxidation of the AL. Don’t scrub it off.
Oxidation is usually grayish. Never seen brown in my aluminum kettles just from boiling water. :?
But at any rate, don’t scrub off the oxidation, it’s the protective layer.
