Seeing as this thread is evolving into a general discussion of water chemistry and the effect of various ions on brewing, I’ll ask if anyone has any info on the effects of fluorine on beer. It is commonly added to municipal water in the US, so it would be good to know what effects it has.

By the way, despite living in a socialist paradise and the addition of fluorine to drinking water being a communist plot, it is not used in the water here. :slight_smile:

I would be interested in knowing the affects of fluoride. I only brewed a couple AG batches with city water then switched to RO and adjustments. I can tell you that my beer jumped by leaps and bounds after making the switch.

Fluoride becomes toxic at relatively low levels, so its not really on the radar for brewing. It’s fine at the very low levels used to aid dental health.
