Ditching hydrometer samples

Just curious: when, if ever, do you ditch hydrometer samples upon checking SG? I never have, based on the thought that if I pitched every sample, over time, I’d actually lose a fair amount. But I’ve recently heard that some chuck every ounce they pull for a gravity check.

I drink mine.

I sanitize a ladel and the hydrometer tube, so then I can dump most of it back in… but also like Baratone, I always save a sample for meself to drink.

I bought a refractometer so that I can make checks for finished fermentation. So now I take only two hydrometer readings. OG and FG. I usually taste them then drink or dump them. I don’t use enough to worry about losing volume.
