Difference in weight after milling

Has anyone ever noticed a difference in the total weight of their grist after milling? I weighed out pale malt, malted wheat, and raw wheat into a bucket individually, re-taring the scale after each grain’s desired amount. Then milled and reweighed the to grains after milling and the weight came back 6 oz lighter. Has anyone ever experienced this or did I maybe make a mistake in my weighing? Total weight should have been 10 lbs even - but came back 9 lbs 10 oz. Thanks!

Hmmm. Honestly I’ve never re-weighed the grain after the initial weigh. One thing, did you tare the object you milled the grain into? Maybe it’s lighter?

That 6oz is the dust you inhaled while milling it

I’m pretty sure I tared the bucket that I dumped the milled grains in to. It’s totally over kill but I’m still dialing in my new system, including a new scale - so I thought why not? Went ahead with the 9 lbs and 10 oz though and nailed my OG so I’m happy  thanks for weighing in.

I see what you did there!. As long as you hit your SG it’s all good!
