Is a 5 gallon igloo mash tun big enough for this beer? I batch sparge
There is 16 lbs of grain!

Thanks Chuck, it looks like I’m going to have to get a bigger mash tun.
Or… can I mash this in two mashes?

You can, although it’s kind of a PITA.

This was my first all-grain brew and I loved everything about it and would hate to alter it but it seems subbing in a bit of DME would be easier than doing two mashes unless you have two mashtuns. Even then it’s still more cleaning.

Not a bad idea!

Why not just do a smaller batch say 2.5 or 3 gallons then it would fit.

3 gallons of this at a time is not enough. I say buy a bigger tun. Cheap and Easy Batch sparging method.

Not enough maybe, but a great excuse to brew more often.

Sounds like it may be a PITA to do two mashes, but I dont mind if it pays off! I wonder if there be any consistency between the mashes.
I dont want to down size to 3 gallons, I cant keep the pipeline full as it is.

Maybe the extract version.

Decisions, decisions…

You could also try splitting your runnings into 3 equal parts. Essentially doing 2 sparges.

13# is the most I have ever fit in my 5 gallon tun
