Dead guy ale

NB have a clone for this?

I dont believe so. Last I knew that other place did but I havent ordered from them in a long time.

CYBI is making some high quality clone recipes based on interviews with the brewers. Many times they just give them the commercial recipe. IIRC, this one was straight from Rogue and they called it ‘cloned’. You can check out the show here:

Here’s the profile. I am sure with a bit of research you could replicate it. The most difficult would be replicating what yeast, but since its a maibock you could probably start with what is recommended.

Malts: Northwest Harrington, Klages, Maier Munich and Carastan.
Hops: Perle and Saaz.
Yeast & Water: Rogue’s Pacman Yeast & Free Range Coastal Water.

^^ can be found on their website.

Yes, NB has a clone for this! Its not exactly a kit but an all grain set of instructions. I haven’t brewed it because I am waiting to for the yeast to show up as a seasonal.

It’s a very good recipe as well. I’ve made it using US-05 and it’s pretty good. I believe the yeast is available year round. NB may be able to special order for you.

The instructions for the extract kit are also still available online (http://www.northernbrewer.com/documenta … eadGuy.pdf), so one could put the kit together (other than the Pacman) even though I don’t think they sell it as a kit any more. I love this beer, but I’ve been a bit confused with Rouge’s branding. They call it a “Maibock-style” beer, but they use an ale yeast.

I don’t know if/when Wyeast plans to release Pacman again, but I believe you can harvest it from most Rogue beers.

Before Pacman was commecially available, I used to culture it from a bottle of Brutal Bitter.

I contacted Wyeast, “This can be purchased by your favorite homebrew shop through Brewcraft USA in Portland, Oregon year round.”

Call NB or your LHBS, they can special order from Brewcraft if they don’t normally carry it. When I contacted NB they said they could order it, but it may take a couple weeks to get it ordered and in.

Since we have been discussing this. I googled Wyeast 1764 pacman and found this:

http://www.brewmasterswarehouse.com/pro ... acman-1764

They apparently have it in stock.

I clicked on the amazon link and saw that they were charging $60 for the kit without the yeast Do kits really cost this much? Also if you do a search for Brewcraft USA you will find a website that includes a listing of all the retailers that carry their products so you should hopefully be able to find one near you. If you want to avoid the price of the kit, Denny’s Son a Dead Fish Ale is a good Dead Guy clone.
