Crazy fermentation

I had to rig up a blow off tube the day after brewing my first AG, a hefe.
What drained out, when settled, looked like about 1 cup of a nice thick yeast starter.

If I had kept it sterile, would it have made for the yeast in another batch?

Yes some people and many breweries like to use top-cropped yeast, it is supposed ot be very healthy.
