Coffee Oatmeal Stout Recipe

I’m planning on brewing this coffee stout this weekend. The recipe is loosely based off a recipe Michael Dawson posted on the NB blog awhile back. Let me know how it looks.

Partial Mash:
3.5# Maris Otter
1 # Oat Malt
3/4 # Chocolate Malt
1/2 # Extra Dark Crystal Malt
1/2 # Flaked Oats
1/2 Carafa III
2 # Light DME

Mash at 154 for 60 minutes

Hops:
1 oz East Kent Goldings- 60 mins

Yeast:
S-04

I plan on “dry hopping” the beer in the secondary with 4 oz of coarsly ground, dark roasted coffee beans for 10-14 days and then bottling.

Thanks everyone

I’d swap the Carafa for roasted barley. Carafa has a more muted roasty flavor, but maybe that’s what you want.

You should plan to taste after a week or so after you add the coffee. Be ready to bottle if the flavor is how you like as the coffee will just keep going and you might end up with more flavor than you want.
