Cleaning bottles

Hey guys,

Im hoping somebody can give me some insight on how to use Oxiclean to clean bottles. I have a case of new bottles and a case of bottles ive only used once. How do u go about cleaning the bottles with Oxiclean? Do you soak them and clean them with a bottle brush?

After cleaning with Oxiclean, how long do you soak them with Star San?

Thanks for your help

Soak in warm water/oxyclean for 15 minutes- several days. Use a bottle brush on any that have sediment. Ones that were well rinsed after opening won’t need much soaking, if any.
Make sure you rinse very well after the oxyclean, inside and outside. A 3-4 time rinse usually is good.
Then I store upside down until time to use. A 30 second starsan rinse is sufficient.
Or, you can try the dishwasher sanitation method. It’s worked well for me for over 50 batches.

I just give each bottle a good rinse maybe 3 times with warm water after I pour. I only have to wash if somebody else gives me a bottle, or it has stubborn yeast that didn’t want to release for some reason. I then have them sitting in boxes until bottling day. I run them thru the sanitize function of the dishwasher and bottle them while the bottles are still warm with a few sprays of starsan for good measure. Been working for me so far.

Make sure it’s oxyclean “free,” the one with no dyes or perfumes. Otherwise you may get a funky taste in your bottle.

When I’m bottling, I have a pot or tub filled with starsan that can fit 4-6 bottles. Before I take one out to fill it, I put one in from the the pile of cleaned bottles. New one goes on one side, take from the other.
